Custom Rods

Why should I buy a custom rod?
Well, you really don't have to, unless, that is, you want to maximize your fishing experience. If you want a rod tailored to you, and your specific needs, custom rods are the only way to go.

What are the advantages of a custom rod?
First, you can get the ultimate lightness and sensitivity only in a custom rod. Second, you can have the rod tailored to exactly what you need. Length, action, weight, guides, wrap colors, can all be designed by YOU, not some factory in China. I fit the grip to your hand size; factory rods have grips that are far too small. Many of my customers have told me that they have never used such a comfortable rod!

What types of rods do you make?
I make all types, but specialize in freshwater rods. I offer several standard type casting and spinning rods. I also offer rods specialized for tasks such as drop-shottin, shaky head, crankbait, topwater, big cat fishing, etc.

What kind of blanks do you use?
I can make your rod out of any kind of blank you want - St. Croix, Rainshadow, Sage, Castawy, whatever. If you don't have a specific brand in mind, but want a rod with a good balance of high sensitivity and moderate price, I will use either Rainshadow RX7 or Mudhole MHX blanks.

How much does a custom rod cost?
Many custom rods are over $500, with some well over $1,000! I can make these if you want. But, I can also make you a rod that functions very well, much better than the department store rod, at a little over $130. Most rods I make go for $150 - $200. It's all up to you.

What are some popular rods you make?
Well, many people want rods with special colors of the guide wraps, and maybe fancy butt wraps in these colors. I can duplicate the colors of any college or university. These are very popular for gifts.
Lately, there's been a big run on rods with microguides. These are unbeliveably light, and increase casting distance, accuracy, and sensitivity.
